Office Depot Inc. (NYSE:ODP) is up 3.52% after starting the day’s trading at $3.63. The stock has a range of $3.63 and $3.92 with a volume of 5.69 million. Office Depot recently released earnings for Q1; results which many analysts felt were disappointing. The company which operates 1,628 stores worldwide said in its release that loss for the quarter ending 30th March was $16.8 million or 6 cents per share. This loss was after paying preferred dividends but is significant given that the corresponding period last year saw net income of $41.3 million. Office Depot blames the loss on weaker sales for Q1 and merger costs related to its proposed deal to merge with rival, OfficeMax. That deal is expected to cost $1.2 billion.
