Alcoa Inc(NYSE:AA) announced yesterday morning that it will be selling its stake in the Jamalco bauxite mining and alumina refining joint venture to Noble for a total proceeds of $140 million. That being said, Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals will remain the managing operator of the company for three years, meaning that all employees will remained employed by Jamalco. In other words, not only was Alcoa able to make a business decision for its own good, but it did so without taking jobs away from Jamaican workers.
Plains All American Pipeline, L.P.(NYSE:PAA) currently has a bid price of $52.75 x 200 and an offer price of $57.73 x 100, figures that, when combined with the company’s spiking trading volume, suggest that its value may soon fluctuate. On Oct. 8th, the Houston-based company announced a quarterly cash distribution of $0.6600 per unit, or $2.64 per unit on an annualized basis. This is a 10% boost from the company’s previous distribution of $0.60 per unit.
Energy Transfer Partners LP(NYSE:ETP) is a Texas-based oil and gas pipeline company that is engaged in both the natural gas midstream and interstate transportation and storage businesses in the United States. The company had a trading volume of 2.8 million yesterday, a figure which is 1.1 million higher than the company’s three month average volume of 1.7 million. Yesterday, Barclays reaffirmed its overweight rating of the company, but rose its target price for the company by $6.
