MFA Financial, Inc.(NYSE:MFA) continued to gain slightly yesterday, closing up 1.93% or $0.15 at $7.92 with more than 7.410 million shares changing hands compared to its three month average trading volume of 2.356 million. The mortgage real estate investment trust’s (REIT) stock fell last week after interest rates started to climb. The 10 year Treasury yield climbed to 2.24% negatively affecting Mortgage REIT’s and MFA Financial has been slowly recovering since.  With a dividend of $0.80 and yield of 10.3%, it has reasonable returns for the industry and a hold at this time.

McDermott International(NYSE:MDR) slipped slightly yesterday to close down 3.61% or $0.12 at $3.20 on lower than average trading volume of 4.426 million shares. The oil and gas focused construction company posted better than expected fourth quarter and full year returns last week with revenues of $806.4 million for the quarter, a 56% increase on the same period last year. Despite this, the share price is still declining as the industry is suffering from the fall in the price of oil. Until oil recovers it is better to sell this stock than to hold.

Chimera Investment Corporation(NYSE:CIM) bounced back slightly yesterday to close up 0.64% or $0.02 at $3.15 on slightly higher than average trading volume of 5.685 million shares. The real estate investment trust is struggling this year and has been underperforming the S&P 500 index for most of the year. Chimera Investment Corporation has only gained 0.64% in the last 52 weeks compared to a 10.72% increase in the S&P 500 index. With a one year target estimate of $3.07 it would be better to hold at this time.
