Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI)’s satellite radio services is going to launch an exclusive NBA channel on Monday, December 9 in partnership with the National Basketball Association. The channel is intended to bring fans closer to the game by broadcasting the league related events and updates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Launch Day

On the debut, Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI)’s SiriusXM NBA Radio on Channel 217 will air exclusive interviews throughout the day involving some of the prominent names ever associated with the league. Among the officials NBA Commissioner David Stern and NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver will remain present along with several players, coaches and team owners.

The Channel Content

Alongside exclusive interviews the new Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI)’s SiriusXM NBA Radio Channel is planned to showcase over 14 live games each week, NBA-focused news, broadcasts from special events, specials focused on the history of the game and talks from the most celebrated NBA hosts. Moreover the Channel would also allow fans to call in to discuss the latest headlines and share their opinions.

SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer, Scott Greenstein said, “Now they’ll have a radio channel that will deliver a 360-degree view of the league from the people who know the game best.  Starting December 9, SiriusXM NBA Radio will be must-listen radio for NBA fans.”

The Heated Radio Space

Both Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:SIRI) and Pandora Media Inc. (NYSE:P) were enjoying their market share in respective radio services and not much competition was expected in the space until Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) launched its iTunes Radio in mid of September. Following September there is marked decline in active listeners of both the established players.

Now to heat-up the ongoing competition and win some real ground in this niche industry, the development-stage digital radio platform – Beats Music – has planned its launch next month. Its stars appeal is considered its strength where it is also expected that music celebrities will be curating many of the available playlists.
