Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) will be brining an entire suite of smart technologies to the Mobile Asia Expo. In effect, this will demonstrate its leadership in enhancing consumers’ connected-driving experience. Ford will be making numerous exciting technology announcements at Asia’s top-tier mobile conference, Apart from this, the Blue Oval is the sole automaker who will participate in the Connected City exhibition at the Mobile Asia Expo.  Attendees at the Connected City will get a firsthand chance to experience what a connected city life is. The Mobile Asia Expo is the best platform for Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) to demonstrate why it is a frontrunner in the smart technologies space. These technologies make the driving experience easier and safer for its customers.

Nothing general about it

General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) is another automaker who strives to develop advanced in-car technology. It has helped the company generate additional sources of revenue as well as boosted its profit margins. GM has plans of its own to take technology to the next level. It will be teaming-up with AT&T and in mid-2014 will commence selling vehicles that are embedded with 4G LTE mobile-broadband. This wireless connection allows a faster-flow of data. The company says that this technology will allow backseat passengers to watch streaming-video.

Today, automakers really have no choice except to upgrade and innovate as the average US consumer spends over 2-1/2 hours everyday on their tablets and  smartphones. That tops the 16-hours that are spent in cars every week, either as drivers or as passengers. Over 2/3rd of new car-buyers own a tablet or a smartphone, and for 80% of them a major factor with a car-buy is connectivity.

Intertwine the two and what emerges is a mega-trend that can be harnessed to gain a competitive advantage. Today, customers are very demanding and their one basic demand is to always be connected irrespective of where they are. In order to keep up with the times, carmakers such as Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) and General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) have adopted a right approach as it is crucial for automakers to attract tech-savvy, younger buyers.
