GovCloud roots for Brocade Communications Systems, Inc (NASDAQ:BRCD)’s Vyatta Vrouter
Last week Brocade (NASDAQ: BRCD) announced that its Vyatta® vRouter is now available. This is a robust virtual-router, VPN solution and firewall for the AWS GovCloud. This is a completely new AWS Region that has been designed to assist contractors and government agencies in the U.S move extra-sensitive workloads to the cloud, with all
their specific compliance and regulatory requirements in view.
Brocade’s Vyatta vRouter for the AWS GovCloud can be used by approved affiliates and federal agencies, for the construction of elaborate and secure n-tier networks that will be able to handle sensitive workloads in the could, in a better manner.
Adhering to requirements
The AWS GovCloud adheres to the FedRAMP or Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program as well as ITAR or International Traffic in Arms Regulations in the U.S. It will simplify the movement and management of approved sensitive-workloads for the U.S federal sector. The AWS GovCloud also supports the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative and the Cloud First Initiative. Both are focused on reducing federal IT-related capital expenses.
The Vyatta vRouter features a firewall, enhanced-routing and SSL and IPSec-based VPN. It allows customers to build enhanced network-topologies on the GovCloud. This software networking-solution has been provisioned as an AMI-Amazon Imaging Machine. It helps in the reduction of capital-costs as it has the ability to be deployed dynamically as per the demand. By deploying this router, customers can connect the AWS GovCloud securely to another private or public cloud. It can also provide a secure-bridge to any data center.
Apart from this, Vyatta offers enhanced customer-controlled functionality.
This includes a scalable VPN which extends the total number of concurrent VPN tunnels. The AWS GovCloud offers the exact high-level of security as any other AWS Regions. It also supports the existing AWS security-controls and certifications, such as ISO 27001 FISMA, PCI DSS Level 1 and SAS-70. AWS also provides a conducive environment that allows agencies to work in compliance with the HIPAA regulations.
