Is GoPro’s CEO The Company’s Worst Enemy?
New York, NY – GDP INSIDER – 10/03/2014.
This article discusses GoPro Inc(NASDAQ:GPRO), the company’s line of products, and the charitable donation that was made to the Jill + Nicholas Woodman Foundation.
GoPro Inc(NASDAQ:GPRO) lost 6.91% of its value today as a result of its CEO’s decision to donate 5.8 million shares to his new Jill + Nicholas Woodman Foundation charity. As a result of the announcement, the law firm of Levi & Korsinsky, LLP has decided to investigate the company for potential breaches of fiduciary duty.
The company, which had its IPO in June, has been widely successful on the stock market. This may be attributed to the company’s product line, which has differentiated itself from other camera companies that are falling as a result of smart phones.
GoPro’s products include the HERO line of cameras, which are designed to be both technically impressive and usable by the most adventurous of consumers. Not only are the cameras capable of shooting in both 720p and 1080p at 120 frames per second, but they’re also waterproof. Moreover, the company’s marketing materials feature prospective camera users out in the world, traveling down a mountain of snow and paddling through a body of water.
GoPro’s promise is that their cameras are capable of handling the most rugged and outdoors-y of individuals. Moreover, they offer the special accessories needed to properly use their versatile line of products. As a result of the company’s niche, it has remained, in some ways, insulated from the general movement away from dedicated camera devices due to the emergence of high-quality, versatile smart phone cameras.
All of that being said, ill-founded decisions like the charitable donation could continue to alienate investors regardless of the company’s impressive branding and product line.
