Northern, WI 05/10/2013 (GDPInsider) –  Sequenom, Inc. (NASDAQ:SQNM) is trading up 15.63% on a start to today’s trading of 4.04. The stock closed previously at 3.57 and is trading with a volume of 7.12 million and a range of 4.00 and 4.22.

SQNM recently had its earnings call and although the company had a loss and missed expectations on Wall Street, it managed to beat revenue expectations. Adjusted EPS decrease to $-0.26, down further on the adjusted EPS recorded for the corresponding quarter in 2012 of $-0.22. Still, revenue jumped 158.04% to $38.5 million and this beat out many of the analysts on Wall Street who had predicted lower numbers. Wall Street had predicted revenues of $38.29 million.

The better-than-expected revenues were highlighted by the company’s CFO, Paul V. Maier. “We are pleased to see sequential improvements in volume, revenue and margin during the quarter, an indication of steady growth and sustained momentum in 2013,” said Maier during the earnings release. SQNM is trading 2.13% above its SMA50 and 11.07% above its SMA20. The stock has a RSI of 61.56.

Catalyst Pharmaceutical Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ:CPRX) is trading up 9.23% after opening at 0.87, 0.03 above its previous close of 0.84. The stock has a range of 0.85 and 0.97 and is trading with volume of 1.01 million. CPRX has been rather flat technically since January 2013, but has shown a marginal uptick since mid-April. This uptick has taken the stock 151.35% above its 52-week low of 0.37 but CPRX is still down 59.03% on its 52-week high of 2.27.

Catalyst Pharmaceutical Partners, Inc focuses on the development-stage clinical trials in the area of prescription drugs which target addiction diseases and those affecting the nervous system. The biopharmaceutical company has a market cap of $34.79 million and has a total of 41.42 million shares outstanding. Insiders own 25.27% of the shares and account for 102.58% of the transactions. Institutions on the other hand, own 17.19% and account for 3.79% of the transactions. The stock has a relatively healthy RSI of 65.88 and is trading 54.74% above its SMA50, and 20% above its SMA20.
