Staples, Inc (NASDAQ:SPLS): Thursday’s trading session saw Staples, Inc (NASDAQ:SPLS) down by 0.86% and closed at $15.04. It opened at a price of $14.90 which touched an intraday high of $15.15, before moving down to close at $14.85 per share. In the previous day’s trading session, around 9.37 million shares were traded. This number was more than the average volume of 9.22 million that was measured over a 30-day period

Framingham, Massachusetts-based Staples, Inc (NASDAQ:SPLS) is the largest office products company in the world. It has annual sales of more than $20 billion. SPLS serves businesses and consumers ranging from various home-based businesses to Fortune 500 companies spread across 26 countries right through North and South America, Asia and Europe.

However, Staples, Inc (NASDAQ:SPLS)’s profitability has been lost its sheen in the previous four quarters. There has been a decline in profit over the past three quarters while a loss was recorded in one period. The company’s earnings have beat Wall Street projections two times over the last four quarters. There has been a consensus projection drop from 31 cents over the last 90 days.

Vocus, Inc (NASDAQ:VOCS): Thursday’s trading session saw Vocus, Inc (NASDAQ:VOCS) down by 0.91% and closed at $8.69. It opened at a price of $8.70 which touched an intraday high of $8.88, before moving down to close at $8.50 per share. In the previous day’s trading session, around 0.680 million shares were traded. This number was less than the average volume of 0.918 million that was measured over a 30-day period.

VOCS is a cloud marketing software provider.  It provides a large suite of software that is used in search marketing, social media marketing, publicity and e-mail marketing. It creates various solutions for its customers. Its solutions are distributed via the Internet with the use of a system and application architecture. As of 31 December 2011, VOCS had 11,907 active annual-subscription customers. It also had more than 36,000 customers who had purchased its services and products as a monthly-subscription or on a per transaction basis.  Vocus, Inc (NASDAQ:VOCS)’s solutions provide a range of performance-based analytics. These solutions are largely offered on a subscription-basis. However, its news distribution and search marketing services are offered on a per-transaction basis as well.
