News Corp (NASDAQ:NWSA): In Thursday’s trading session, News Corp (NASDAQ:NWSA) surged by 4.49%. The opening price was $33.07 per share which rose to an intraday high of $34.04 before dipping to $33.29 in the trading session on Thursday. In excess of 29.08 million shares were traded over the day while the average volume was much lower and stood at 12.99 million, calculated over 30 days.

News Corp (NASDAQ:NWSA) topped profit estimates for its third-quarter. This was attributed to the increase in licensing fees for shows such as “New Girl” and “American Idol”. There was an 11 percent rise in the licensing fees that were paid by U.S satellite and cable operators who carried the News Corp content while there was a 2 percent rise in advertising sales in the U.S. In a statement, the New York-based company said that with the exclusion of some items, the company’s earnings per share were 36 cents.

The average analyst prediction had been 35 cents per share. The spurt in the television industry has underscored Murdoch’s plan to spin-off his flailing publishing group from other productive entertainment assets.

Mondelez International Inc (NASDAQ:MDLZ): In Thursday’s trading session, there was a drop of 1.10% in Mondelez International Inc (NASDAQ:MDLZ). The opening price was $30.96 which rose to an intraday high of $31.05 before it dropped to $30.58 per share, on Thursday. More than 10.97 million shares were traded over the day while the average volume was much lower and stood at 11.25 million. This was measured over 30 days.

Mondelez International Inc (NASDAQ:MDLZ) updated its 2013 financial year guidance. The company said that its earnings per share will be in the range of $1.55-$1.60 in comparison to the average analyst estimate of $1.56. The revenue will be at the lower end of +5-7% in comparison to the average analyst estimate of $36.32 billion. The company had released its earnings data, last on 7 May. The reported quarterly earnings per share for the quarter were $0.34 and were on par with the average analyst estimate of $0.34.

The revenue for the quarter was $8.74 billion in comparison to the analyst estimate of $8.68 billion. Mondelez International Inc (NASDAQ:MDLZ)’s revenue on a year-on-year basis saw an increase of 9%.
