On October 25, 2013 J.C. Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE:JCP) announced to have partnered with the most widely used real world shopping app, shopkick that rewards shoppers ever for walking into stores. This move can also be considered as part of JC Penney’s efforts to review its sales and especially to push sales during the crucial holiday season. As an outcome of this deal, JC Penny shoppers can now earn shopkick’s trademarked reward currency, ‘kicks’ alongside special offers available at JC Penney’s 1,100 outlets across the country. Moreover as a part of this teaming up, shopkick users will get additional kicks for a limited period of time, exclusively from JC Penney, when they visit JC Penney store.

The Senior Vice President of Marketing at JC Penney, Debra Berman mentioned that as more and more people are switching to smartphones that are also becoming key shopping tool, the mobile internet integration is essential to enhance the modern day, in-store shopping experience. Talking about shopkick partnership, Berman added, “Through our partnership with shopkick, we are able to cater to today’s mobile savvy consumer and take our in-store shopping experience to the next level by rewarding and engaging customers who are already shopping inside a JCPenney store.”

The Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at shopkick, Cyriac Roeding mentioned that JC Penney’s countrywide rollout of shopkick would certainly make shopping more rewarding and inspiring for shoppers while driving more traffic and incremental sales to retailers like JC Penney.

The shopkick app detects the signal emitted from a unique patent-pending device, when the user walks into the partnered store, which is usually picked up by the user’s Smartphone and kicks gets deposited into their account. These kicks can be redeemed for gift cards, movie tickets, song downloads among other things. Moreover shop kick users can also collect additional kicks by daily logging into app, inviting friends to join and linking their pay cards to specialty ‘Buy and Collect’ program.

The app is freely available on Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Google Play for Android users as well on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s App Store for iPhone or iPad users.
