Want to name your baby? Contact Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN)
Survival in the business world is about innovation and evolution. How a business evolves will depend on several factors. Some companies are in the throes of fixing operational flaws, rebuilding their brand and making some essential changes to their businesses. On the other hand, some companies focus on making the most of their current successes by diversifying or by acquiring other companies. Some other companies are at crossroads and try a little bit of this and that.
What’s Groupon been up to lately?
Very few know that Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN), the struggling daily-deal site has forayed into babyland. The company is offering an extremely unusual purchase opportunity that is bound to raise a few eyebrows, garner some interest, start some debates and bring on a few snickers. Groupon will name your baby for $1,000.
A big deal?
According to the promos for the baby naming deal, Groupon seems to be targeting people who are too caught up with their lives to think up a name for their baby. The company has also patented its baby naming service and tout that they are the “World’s Foremost Authority in Baby Naming™”. Once the baby has been born, Groupon will take over the burden of naming the customer’s baby. It will bestow a custom name that has been especially selected by them, for the infant boy or girl. Purchasers can e-mail the company with their voucher number and the name of the child will be e-mailed back to them. Groupon claims that the name that they will pick will be nothing as common as a Bridget or a Kevin.
The fine print says that the name is will not be interchangeable with any other name and that the spelling is non-negotiable as well. Very simply put- you will be paying Groupon $1,000 for a name that has already been announced to the world. Sounds a little unreal, doesn’t it? Well no one really knows what Groupon is really up to- maybe they are just having a little bit of fun!
