Which Big Movers To Buy? Solazyme Inc (SZYM), Voltari Corp (VLTC) and Infinera Corp. (INFN)
New York, NY – GDP INSIDER – 04/20/2014.
This article discusses three companies: Solazyme Inc (NASDAQ:SZYM), Voltari Corp (NASDAQ:VLTC) and Infinera Corp. (NASDAQ:INFN)
Solazyme Inc (NASDAQ:SZYM) shares were down in Friday’s trading by 11.3%, essentially just retracing gains from late on Thursday’s trading session. It moved down on higher than average volume of 1.6 million shares versus the average of under a million shares. Earlier in the week Flotek Industries and Solazyme announced an agreement to jointly develop advanced drilling fluid technologies which generated interest around the company. The stock is down by 37% in the past six months, but is actually up by 52% year to date. The stock could continue to climb throughout the year.
Voltari Corp (NASDAQ:VLTC) is up from its 52-week low of $0.63, currently trading at $8.67. Carl Icahn has provided most of that lift to the mobile marketing and advertising solutions company. It is up over 800% since he disclosed a 52.3% stake in the company. Typically, Icahn pressures a company’s to make changes by bringing in new Boards members. Three of Voltari’s Board members are already tied to Icahn, and he could add more since he has increased his ownership interest. However, the rise in the share price of VLTC was rapid, and we are concerned it is ahead of fundamentals.
Infinera Corp. (NASDAQ:INFN) stock price was down by 4.3% on Friday. However, the stock is up by 43% over the past 3 months. The company is a provider of optical transport networking equipment, software, and services for telecom service providers. The stock benefitted last week from the rally that was sector wide caused by the Nokia/Alcatel merger talks. Friday’s decline was just giving some of this back. Fundamentals and industry trends are positive for the equipment maker. The growth in 100G could act as another catalyst for the stock during 2015, and it can move higher.
